Moray Bayliss

Chairman, Tang Ting Twinning Association

Moray was born in Devon in the South West of England where his father was a veterinary surgeon and where he spent much of his time roaming the woods, fields and streams of the local countryside.

This gave him an abiding love of the natural world and an interest in farming which has never left him. After secondary school he went to London University to study Zoology and then embarked on a career in teaching and in educational management, teaching in a variety of secondary schools and working in a range of roles before settling in his current post in a large inner London Sixth form college where he is an Assistant Principal with responsibility for Student Services.

His career experiences include leading a college recruitment team to Pakistan and in helping develop black South African middle managers through a mentoring scheme, as well as contributing to the development of a successful sixth form college with a good track record of getting young people from an urban environment into University.

Although his career is important to him he feels that his greatest achievement has been in bringing up his two children, one of which is at the Royal College of Art, the other at Cambridge University. “ Bringing up my children has been the most rewarding part of my life and has given me the greatest possible satisfaction, particularly as I have seen them grow in confidence into fine young people who I am immensely proud of “

His interest in joining the TTTA came about from a long standing interest in development issues and a desire to “put something back” for a charity that combined involvement in the developing world with activities in the local community.

Moray has a wide range of interests which include : classical and rock music, keeping sheep, bees and chickens, walking, cooking ,gardening and skiing.
He plans to retire soon to spend more time on these interests and to give more time to charity work.

Dr Helen Brown

Committee Member

Dr Helen Brown graduated from Imperial College of Science & Technology (London) and Bristol University and began a career in the scientific field, moving on to become European project manager for a multinational agrochemical company. Senior management roles followed before Helen moved into the charity sector six years ago, planning and implementing a major organisational change programme, commissioning an IT infrastructure and introducing computer based advice free to local people at Cambridge Citizens Advice Bureau.

Helen became Chief Executive of Crossroads Caring for Carers partly as a result of a personal experience as a carer, at a time when the organisation was looking for strategic leadership and undergoing a merger. Helen has led Crossroads through 3 mergers now, to form West Anglia Crossroads Caring for Carers, which has a countywide presence and a turnover of £1.6 million. They are a major provider of help for people with care needs and short breaks for carers of all ages who care for them, helping prevent hospital admission and enabling people to live at home. Helen was also commissioned by Cambridgeshire County Council to help develop their new Carers Strategy.

Helen has taken an active role in village life in the UK, serving on the committees of several local organisations over the last 25 years and as a Parish Councillor. Her broad interests include agriculture and the environment, technology, health and social care and sports.
